The ResU Health Informatics and Information Management (HIIM) Program is Now Accredited!
Resurrection University was awarded accreditation through the Commission on Accreditation for Health Informatics and Information Management (CAHIIM) on February 7, 2013 for the baccalaureate program in Health Informatics and Information Management (HIIM). In order to receive the accreditation, Resurrection University underwent a rigorous process that included peer review, site visits, and self-study reports to provide proof to CAHIIM that the program complies with the highest standards in HIIM education.
Students primarily benefit from the accreditation upon graduation, as the student will now be eligible to sit for the credentialing exam to become a Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA)*, which will open the door to more advanced job possibilities. The accreditation marks a monumental milestone for the University.
Becoming accredited through CAHIIM also means that the University is able to offer more to the Chicago community and records management personnel. People interested in healthcare and technology who may not want a career in direct patient care may pursue a degree in HIIM through Resurrection University knowing that they are receiving the top level in education for their baccalaureate degree.
The program is currently offered in a hybrid online/classroom format, but will eventually be offered entirely online to allow busy adults the opportunity to further their education while avoiding an extra commute.
* National Commission for Certifying Agencies (NCCA) has granted accreditation to AHIMA’s Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA) certification program. AHIMA received accreditation by successfully demonstrating the program’s compliance with the NCCA’s Standards for the Accreditation of Certification Programs. This is an important accomplishment that further enhances the value of AHIMA-credentialed professionals in the healthcare industry.
